Paisley, Oregon,
population approximately 220. We are located on the beautiful Oregon Outback highway, 150 miles southeast of Bend, in south central Oregon. The climate is mild with warm summers and short mild winters, without the rain and fog found on the west side of the state. Stop at our City Park (in the middle of town, on the highway) for free public rest rooms and to visit the unique stores, gas station/garage, and market. Sandwiches at the Saloon are great and lots of historic items on display. Have a great country meal at "The Homestead." Don't pass up their Biscuits and gravy and add sausage gravy to your hash browns!
QUOTE(S) FOR THE WEEK: "Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime." '
Chewaucan Challenge is the first elite fly fishing tournament on one of America's last wild fish rivers. Untouched and yet easily accessible, the full fifty miles of river will be open for tournament fishing. Novice anglers will find exceptional access to a wild river that does not require technical casts. Experienced anglers will relish a rare challenge: catching a wild fish on the fly. This river is one of the few left where all the red bands ARE wild. We have now been officially categorized as "The 36th best fishing spot in the Northwest!" To reserve your three person team, or to ask any questions, contact the Tournament Director, Larry Duckworth at (541) 943-3141. Larry says it will be held June 15, 16, 17, & 18, 2008.
The "Official" information from the Paisley City Council is: "25th Annual Mosquito Festival... At this time, we do not know if there will be a Mosquito Festival this year." (http://cityofpaisley.tripod.com/id9.html) Any questions, call the Paisley City Hall at: (541) 943-3173 or email your question to: Paisley City Council I have received no information about the festival for this year. The V.I.P.s (Lioness) have always run the great Bar-B-Q and will NOT be doing it this year. There will be no Air Show. There will be no Car Show N' Shine. Will anyone take over? If anyone knows anything about a festival this year, PLEASE, let me know so I can post it! PaisleyOregon@AOL.COM.
The City of Klamath Falls, in cooperation with Kingsley Field Air National Guard and local Veteran's organizations, seeks to honor the Klamath Basin men and women of the armed forces. The project consists of a pavilion and monuments at Veteran's Memorial Park in downtown Klamath Falls on the shore of Lake Ewauna. The monument walkway will be constructed of dedicated brick pavers, with each brick paying tribute to a military member and their service to our country. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) there will be an accessible walkway leading to the monument. This project will provide enduring recognition of our veterans at Veterans Memorial Park. In addition to dedicating brick pavers, there are other opportunities to contribute to this Memorial. The 173rd Fighter Wing and 173rd Civil Engineer Squadron are donating their time and efforts to the project.
The Oregon Department of Transportation Division 51 rule was applied to the Safeway store in Lakeview. Safeway proposed an enlargement of their store and services that would have created 18 badly needed new jobs. The store is located on Main Street which is also Highway 395. Traffic is normally such that when they see a car on the street they wave because it is their neighbor. Regardless of this fact, ODOT applied the Division 51 rule the same as if it were being applied on Sandy Boulevard in downtown Portland. ODOT denied Safeway a second access to the street that was critical to the success of the increased service effort. Rather than fight ODOT for a small store in Lakeview, Safeway chose to abandon their expansion plan. The outcome of this inappropriate application of a statewide rule was the loss of expanded services, the loss of construction jobs, and the loss of about 18 critically needed permanent jobs for the citizens of Lake County. If this upsets you, write our state represenatives at: http://www.leg.state.or.us/writelegsltr/ Why is Lake County unheard at the state level? The fact is that 80 percent of Oregonians live within 20 miles of the Willamette River, and rightfully, enjoy 80 percent of the representation in both legislative chambers. That reality leaves more than 80 percent of Oregon’s geographic area, and 20 percent of her people, to be represented by only 9 Senators and 18 Representatives. In Fact, 13 Senators and 26 Representatives live in districts located entirely or partly within Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties.
Moreover, the effective representation or our more rural citizens is further diluted because a significant number of other Senate and House districts also include portions of that Willamette River corridor. It is readily apparent to those who do not live in that Willamette River corridor that rules and regulations that may be perfectly reasonable and appropriate for that heavily populated portion of Oregon, are neither appropriate nor reasonable for those who live in less densely populated area.
How safe is your computer security? When it comes to computer security, there are many things to think about. You need antivirus software, anti-spyware programs and a firewall. But if you think security ends there, you're mistaken. Your computer could be at severe risk of attack. The Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer will help your assess your computer's security. It will make sure Windows and Office are updated with all the necessary security patches. You can also learn about other security issues that you might otherwise overlook. Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer gives you a detailed assessment that will be quite lengthy. Take the time to read it thoroughly and fix any problems listed. It is another tool in your arsenal to protect your machine.
Paisley Library Try out new features in IE 8 beta. Internet Explorer 8 is currently in its beta testing phase. And it’s open to the public. So you can get a look at what’s to come. IE 8 will introduce new features. For instance, IE 7’s phishing filter has been renamed the Safety Filter. This filter already blocks known phishing sites. Now, it will also block sites known to contain malicious software. The Safety Filter is a behind-the-scenes improvement. Another such addition is Automatic Crash Recovery. This helps you save your progress when the browser hangs or crashes. It tries to return the browser to its pre-crash state. It will return tabs to the last pages you visited.
Two more prominent additions are Activities and WebSlices. Activities will let you easily transfer information between Web sites. Say you’re on a restaurant’s site, looking for directions. You find the address, but no map. Use Activities to map the address with your favorite service. The map will appear in a tool-tip window. You don’t have to leave the restaurant’s site. This saves you from copying and pasting from one window to another. The feature has other capabilities. All are based on moving information and content. WebSlices operate like RSS feeds. But users can subscribe to a portion of a site directly. A feed must be updated in addition to the site itself. But a WebSlice will update the user whenever the site is changed. It can be housed in the Favorites Bar. The text in the bar will change when the WebSlice does. You can then click through and check out the new content. Speaking of the Favorites Bar, it has also been overhauled. In addition to links, it can now contain feeds and WebSlices. It can also house Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents for easy access. IE 8 beta can be downloaded for a number of Windows versions. Remember that this is a beta version. You may see problems that should be fixed in the final release.

Lake County United Fund needs members. "We meet quarterly except during the campaign which runs from September thru January when we meet monthly." "We would like to see some representation from Paisley and North Lake on our board as well." Celebrating - our 50,000th visitor to this web page! On June 8, 2005 I put a counter on this page. We have already gone over 50,000 "HITS." This is proving to be a very busy web page! Are you aware that this is the very FIRST city web page in Lake County, Oregon, on-line in 1998? Will the last person to leave Paisley, please turn off the lights? Just as three progressive individuals are elected to the Paisley City Council, some behind the scenes activities arrange for them to be recalled and replaced by those wanting the city to remain unchanged. Those of us with positive hope for the future of Paisley have been seriously disappointed and have lost our temporary optimism. As for remaining the same, lets look at the last ten years... What will be remaining in Paisley in the next ten years? Will the school be vacant? Will the Forest Service close? Will Main Street be nothing but closed buildings? I honestly hope that my vision will be totally inaccurate. Unfortunately, the trend toward decay is continuing, primarily because of a handfull of individuals and some 1940 attitudes. Paisley residents, do you know where the City of Paisley is spending your money? Why doesn't the City make public the City finances? It is public information. A good example of what is required is the Town of Lakeviews web page. Our City Council should look at: http://lakevieworegon.org/images/2007-2008_BUDGET.pdf.
Unfortunately, Paisley has no funds to support the Senior and Disabled Transportation Program at this time.

Your PC's enemy. The two primary sources of damage to your PC are heat and moisture. The system can accumulate dust from its surroundings. Depending on your environment, you may need to clean your system once a month. Prior to cleaning, always unplug your computer AND its components. You will need a can of compressed air, mild cleaner, anti-static clothes and anti-lint clothes. Make sure you never spray any cleaner directly to any component, rather spray directly on the cloth. Start with your key board. Turn it upside down and shake it to loosen crumbs. You can also give it a few shots of compressed air to help looses dirt. Wipe your key board down with a mild cleaner or use the wipes such as Lysol. Make sure the cleaner doesn't contain any bleach.
Using a household vacuum with a dust brush, vacuum the air ports to your monitor. Then wipe its case with a mild cleaner and lint free cloth. Refer to your users manual on the proper cleaner to use on the screen.

Senate amendment fails by one vote! On June 27, the Senate came up just short of passing a constitutional amendment to let Congress outlaw desecration of the U.S. flag. The vote was 66-34, one shy of the two-thirds majority needed for passage. The amendment would not, in itself, ban flag desecration but would authorize Congress to pass laws criminalizing such behavior. "Countless men and women have died defending that flag," said Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., closing two days of debate. "It is but a small humble act for us to defend it." Gordon Harold Smith of Oregon voted YES. * * * Democrats, voted no: Ron Wyden of Oregon, Joseph Biden of Delaware, Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, Russell Feingold of Wisconsin, John Kerry of Massachusetts. The Senate also rejected an alternative put forward by assistant Democratic leader Dick Durbin of Illinois. It would have made it against the law to damage the flag on federal land or with the intent of breaching the peace or intimidation. It also would have prohibited unapproved demonstrations at military funerals. Want to know what is happening in Paisley?! Click on"Paisley Activity Calendar" on the top left of this page.
