The Community of Paisley, Oregon welcomes International Students.

This small, rural community has grown intellectually, socially and culturally during the years in which it has hosted students from around the world. We believe in the motto that it, "Takes a Village to raise a child." The long waiting list of Mentor families from the community demonstrates the fact that the entire city of Paisley lives by this value. We have demonstrated our ability to provide a safe, healthy and intellectually stimulating environment for students from various cultures. The Paisley School System and the residents welcome exchange students.

The relationships between the International students living closely together in the dorm is very important as both social skill development and also as an intercultural learning experience. They return to their homes with greater insight into peoples from other parts of the world, with differing values, religious beliefs and life styles. They return better educated in the real world environment.

Recreation and sports are an integral part of the Paisley experience. This is accomplished in both the Paisley School curriculum and fully utilizing the extensive rural environment surrounding this area. Swimming in the rivers, hiking the mountains and tending the cattle on nearby ranches are experiences provided our students.

A well rounded education requires the development of social skills. Paisley prides itself on providing many experiences with the residents of our community. Parties, dances, working with the Senior Center, living in the homes or our families give the visiting students an opportunity to learn about others and build the social skills they will require in later life. Trips to the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, visits to the major cities of Oregon, and many trips with their Mentor families are provided to our International Students.

Our International students are an integral part of our school community. They become an active part of the student councils, school newspaper, sports teams, drama groups and in the civic and social aspects of the general community.

In the dorm, a family environment is maintained. We believe young people need to have responsibilities to support their community and home. Boundaries from caring adults are set to build their character, ensure their safety and in developing a strong sense of self worth.

This family theme is very important at Collins McDonald Hall. Every aspect of dorm life is tailored to that of a family. We believe our residents need this support, caring and structure enabling them to set goals and to enrich their lives enabling them to become successful adults in the environment of the twenty first century.
